The person I chose to interview for this assignment is Aurelein Rajoharison, age 71, but my family knows him by Rein. I was introduced to Rein by my aunt who originally met him while she was living in Madagascar after college. Rein is an individual who has lived in the United States for less than 10 years, but his time here has not been consistent, as he returns home to Madagascar for two months every year. Rein’s family is of the Malayo-Polynesian background, as his home country is the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar, however he identifies himself has Malagasy. When asked the difference, he explained that his ancestors were part of an ethnic group native to the island of Madagascar.
